Bio

Based and ethically produced in Nashville, Tennessee, Black By Maria Silver is a women's contemporary streetwear line that combines urban nonchalance with easy glamour. Started in 2011 while self-styling designer Maria Silver toured the world playing drums in critically acclaimed rock band, The Ettes, her line always keeps the modern voyager in mind by providing a travel-ready wardrobe for women of adventure and attitude. After debuting at Nashville Fashion Week as an emerging designer 2011, BBMS also expanded to making custom pieces for performers on stage including John McCaughey (Deer Tick), Ruby Amanfu. With her reputation growing, Silver produced her Spring/Summer 2014 collection to rave reviews and a sold out collection. The momentum has continued. For instance, in 2016 alone, a Refinery29 feature on BBMS received 1million plus views, Nashville Fashion Week named Silver the recipient of their Rising Star award, she was inducted into the Tennessee State Museum's Costume and Textile Institute, featured by StyleBluePrint and Racked, and included in Southern Living Magazine's “Southern Fashion Instagrams to Follow.” The recent praise complements past features such as Elle, Bust, Nylon, Traveller, WWD, Vogue, and others.
Using her costume design background, Silver designed costumes for Nashville Ballet’s Seven Deadly Sins show. In the broader scope, She hopes to continue growing the Black By Maria Silver brand and will absolutely continue to be a consciously inclusive line regarding both designing for a diverse clientele and always featuring diverse models. With the launch of this new site, Silver hopes to provide an informative online shopping experience by using a virtual dressing room, sustainability meter and expanded size range so that the customer can be confident in their decisions. Silver also continues to work as a costume designer and stylist with clients that include Ruby Amanfu, Carrie Underwood, Brendan Benson and more.
